I would be fine with it if spriggans avatar looked different though.

It was PARTLY because of Spriggan. It was mostly caused by Shu being beaten by Free and wanted to be the best, and tried to control his bey.

Free beating Shu was just the catalyst, the real reason was his inability to keep his promise to Valt about facing him in the finals of the Nationals and losing to Lui a SECOND time. And I personally think that Spriggan possessing Shu part might have been metaphorical, Spriggan representing nothing but Shu's own obsession with winning.

As for myself, I would change Wizard Bahamut's avatar, Fumiya deserves better imo.

In the manga it doesn't break, I think the manga is better than the anime because it has more content in it. And some funny stuff.
