Hello Beybladers of the world! I've been a long-time fan of Beyblade, and used to play a little bit back when MFB was the current iteration of Beyblade. Sadly I was an idiot and sold off all of my old Beyblades many years ago and don't have anymore anymore.
Now that Beyblade Burst has been a thing for a while, I've really put some thought into the game and I have one major question to ask you all as a community: What draws you to Beyblade Burst?
"Bursting" Beyblades isn't a new concept. Most of us know that the plastic generation (and sometimes rarely the HMS generation) was heavily prone to bursting. Back then it wasn't an intended mechanic, and was both really interesting to see and surprising. HMS and MFB made strides to remove this unintended side effect of Beyblade design, but Burst brought it back as an intended mechanic. However, the more I think about it, the less I like Burst as a whole.
I'm a fan of more defensive or stamina type Beyblades (more so Stamina than anything else). Back in MFB I feel like the "meta game" was fairly well made, with some notable outstanding exceptions to this rule (Quetz's wheel until it got outclassed, Libra's wheel until it was banned and then later re-released as a more balanced model, etc. etc.) You had a good, well-defined balance of the game between design of parts and design of the tops themselves. They were sturdy and had a myriad of options (assuming you weren't playing for tippy top tier parts.) But Burst... feels like it sort of threw this out of the window. With how the Burst layer system works, your parts become HEAVILY worn down rapidly, and there is a lot more emphasis on Attack types than any of the others just due to how Attack types work in general. (Smash attacks and Upper attacks, both heavily prone to bursting your opponent.) It's like... If you can't knock them around or out, you can just plow through them. It makes Defense and Stamina types feel and seem like they function objectively worse.
It could just be me, I haven't been in the loop for some time. I'm just reminiscing about the previous generations and unsure about the newer ones...
