Are we normal? - rokoPM - Apr. 25, 2017

I just had a hearth broken conversation with my parents.Im almost 15 im in the 8 grade and next year i will go to high scool. They said that something is wrong with me i shouldnt be playing with beyblades playing pokemon or yugioh TCG i shouldnt be playing with toys...How do i tell them that i sont want to quit beyblade..... ;(

RE: Are we normal? - Kai-V - Apr. 25, 2017

Eh yo, high school is rather easy and it is absolutely not too old to to be playing anything... You can show her our tournament videos, where the majority of the participants are teens and young adults, and perhaps ask them whether they would prefer for you to be doing more "normal teenager stuff" like going to suspicious places, bars, drinking and other things like that...? Like what is a teen even supposed to be doing hah? You are too young to be working full time or even what is considered "part-time".

I think we have one or two threads about what to tell adults and people critising the fact that you are interested in Beyblade.

Mate if u think u got it bad, I Been having this convo with my parents so much it's become a routine. Beyblade ain't based on age, u either like it or u don't. Same goes for my anime habits, many people keep asking me why I watch japanese cartoons, simple cos I enjoy it. Now I could have been like all the other boys at the time and smoked weed and rocked an addidas tracksuit but what's that gonna achieve, nothing. That's what I told my parents and they finally understood that I ain't as bad as they tried make me out to be for liking something deemed childish by societies standards. Talk with ur parents and tell em it's ur life and ur decisions.

RE: Are we normal? - Kai-V - Apr. 25, 2017

Plus, I went to a beigoma event this weekend and the age range of the players there was amazing. Sure, there is a culture difference and perhaps an attitude difference with old teens/young adults here, but there was definitely a benefit to having these 'sensei' participate, to show the ropes, show that it was more than just a child's game, etc. And this is a tradition that has continued for years in Japan.

The truth is, no one is normal, but we're unique. All "normal person" is now is a stupid and misused definition that teens use when you don't cater to something that's trendy or the same things they do, or trying too hard to look grown up or edgy without actually being one.

RE: Are we normal? - rokoPM - Apr. 25, 2017

Thank you guys i could always count on you

RE: Are we normal? - Yblader1 - Apr. 25, 2017

Honestly mate, beyblade at least in the wbo is balanced by both under and over 18 players. I'm 19 years old myself. The sport simply ain't got a range. U can be 3 to like 100 years old or something, it don't matter as long as u enjoy it lol.

RE: Are we normal? - Sunburnninja - Apr. 25, 2017

Wow, those are quite unsupportive parents.

The only real age limit should be anyone much younger than the target audience, but for safety reasons. There really is no limit for hobbies like these, so it should really be Age 8 - Death.

He's quite lucky his parents only said it and didn't take action. My dad tossed out half my beyblades when I was 15 cos I had messed up one exam. I actually hid my beys from my parents ever since. They know I got them but my beys are still hidden in a safe place. One of the perks of being an afghan dude is everyone in the family thinks u grown out of stuff like beyblade at age 10 lol. I'm the anomaly in my family into both beyblade and anime, 2 things my family see as taboo apparently to society standards. My mum is accepting of my hobbies now tho, it's my dad that still thinks of me as a kid cos I like this stuff. I remember always hiding my packages when they came lol.

Note: it's impossible to be normal cos everyone has their own perception of normal so the answer to that question is that non of us are normal

Yo, I was in your position last year and, honestly, no one cares if you play beyblade. You'll be fine m8

I feel bad for you. Over the years my parents have become more supportive of my interest in beyblade. They used to hate it. One of my teachers even says that I should keep playing. I'm 13, and I'm going to high school next year. Be true to yourself and don't let your parents bring you down. Just keep liking beyblade.

RE: Are we normal? - King Loofa - Apr. 26, 2017

Were not normal. We are weird. It can be scary to be "weird", but you realize over time that its worth it. Do what you want. You can abide by social norm, but in the end you may find yourself unhappy as you attempt to please everybody. As long as you can take care of and balance your priorities, spinning tops is perfectly fine. I myself have been a gamer all my life playing smash brothers and beyblades. Im a Navy veteran and i still spin tops and play pokemon. I think its cool to play beyblades as long as it does not consume your life in a negative way. If anything your parents may be worried about you getting bullied or not taking on responsibilities. Bottom line is, you can keep playing games. Things like that make you interesting. Just keep in mind that you need to do whats important. (Work towards a job that can get you ALL the tops and pokemon!)

And please oh please...dont turn into a sheep. We dont need more of those... be yourself.

yeah man, I'm also part of another demographic that people like to scrutinize and ridicule because they can't understand it (even peeps on here have expressed their distasteful opinions about people in my situation), I got married early and had children, never would change anything only that I wish I got married sooner haahaa, my wife supports me and also makes sure I don't go crazy with my spending on beys haha she even battles me too and my oldest son is pretty good too.

Yh nothing wrong with getting married earlier in life. The only issue would be providing for Family at a young age I guess but if there's a plan then that ain't a prob either. My parents married early, personally I'm more of a "wait it out and see what happens" kinda person.

RE: Are we normal? - Landar - Apr. 26, 2017

If there were no adults playing with toys, there would't be toys anymore

I yeah man I completely get you, if you feel to wait thats your thing, but I just don't like it when people start saying your an idiot or a fool etc for having children earlier and such

RE: Are we normal? - Landar - Apr. 26, 2017

Who cares what people think about my decisions?
I'm from Italy and my girlfriend comes from a traditional family, we wanna "start our life" as soon as possible and nor my family and especially her family will appreciate this, but our lives belong to us.

Furthermore. About games. Who decides what is important in life? For the universe (if we ipotetically assume that it has a will) it is the same if a mere human is a lawyer or a beyblade champion. The importance is assigned by humans themselves and I consider cleverer an happy beyblade champion than a sad but rich lawyer.
