Dude said that Super Smash has a better fighting engine then all those games.

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Roan - Aug. 16, 2008

Halo 3 on Legendary is so much easier with three people, carp.

Yeah its an alright game, easy to pick up and play and man back when my mate had a 64 we would all play against eachother and have a blast, but its not really a serious fighting game to be honest, and really its not a good one at that in my opinion, it trails way behind the likes of the Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive series.

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Roan - Aug. 17, 2008

I'm sad.

I'm almost done with Braid, but I don't want it to be over with yet. D:

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Roan - Aug. 17, 2008

Scratch that, I just finished the game a little bit ago.

A++++++

Recommend it to everyone.

You could say that about any fighting game. Competitive Smash bros is just the same as competitive street fighter.

And I'm not really sure why you don't see it as a serious fighter. It takes months and months of practice to get good, and smash bros is a game where a new player has no chance to beat a good one. Tournament Smash is played 1 v 1 with no items, and has a large hxc/tournament following.

anyone ever played Gundam wing Endless duel? its a pretty sweet 2d fighter.

I think you've helped prove my point: in order to turn "regular Smash" into "competitive Smash," you have to throw out just about everything that makes Smash so awesome: all of the items, most of the stages, all of the game modes that aren't stock battle or team stock battle, and a good portion of the characters. That's why I don't see it as a "serious" fighter: it wasn't meant to be one, and is only considered one now because of the tournament players' amputation of all the fun parts.

I'm inclined to agree with this. Competitions only seem to happen when you disable some core features for Smash. While you can certainly have competitions with the game, I certainly believe the game was designed with a more light-hearted, party-theme in mind.

I could pm link to the rom and patch.

I love the animations. I went and found it cause ive been watching Wing lately, first played it like 6 yeas ago.

unrelated* YO everybody if you don't mind, tell me what you think is a fair price for an N64 with like mem card and 2 controllers???

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - To - Aug. 17, 2008

Sorry Blue can't help you, I buy all my consoles new. Incidentally, the only console I bought used was a N64 back in like '99 for $50, I'm not sure what 64's fetch for today.

I saw that guy again last night at EB Games. I really don't like him, he's either the biggest fanboy/idiot, or a real life troll. Idiot was going on and on about how Smash allowed him to pay for college, and that no other game allows their players to win pots like Smash (I'm like WTF?). He continued about how Smash is the epitome of Fighting games, and that all others are weak immitators (again, I'm like WTF?). For the first time in my life, I actually felt sorry for the people working at EB Games, usually they're asses to me, but considering what they put through with that guy(He seems like the kind who goes there every day) carp...

Then this guy notices some kids playing a demo of Virtua Fighter on PS3 and feels the need to say "that sucks".

I honestly think if the game was meant to be played with items all the time, you wouldn't be able to turn them off. As far as I'm concerned, high level smash is much more competitive than games like Doa or SC

to

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkaJc6-I0qs -DoA

there's a pretty noticeable difference

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Doompenguin - Aug. 18, 2008

True, but the opposite applies, as well: if the game was meant to be played without items all of the time, they wouldn't have bothered investing the time and effort required to put them into the game in the first place.

So the answer must lie in the middle: it appears the genius of the smash series is that you can take the game in either direction. If you want to just pick up a controller and play without troubling yourself with complex combos and the like, you can do that. However, you want to push the envelope and hone your skills to a razor's edge, you can do that as well.

I still don't think Mr. Sakurai set out to make the next best tournament fighting game with Super Smash Bros. However, he did make it so that others wanted to play hardcore, they could. If I'm not mistaken, he had the same philosophy about the Kirby games; simple enough that new players aren't intimidated by it, but with enough depth that veteran gamers won't be bored either.

FFS, why are we still having this debate?

DP just said that smash can be played both competitively and casually, which is totally true.

So we aren't really having the debate anymore.

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Roan - Aug. 18, 2008

Good.

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - To - Aug. 18, 2008

It seems that guy at Silicon Knights is going to be eaten up by PlayStation Defense Force if some early reviews of Too Human are to be the norm. It seems to be a like it or hate it experience.

I hate this Dennis Dyack guy from Silicon Knights.

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Kei - Aug. 20, 2008

what the heck

three games are coming out on November 18th that I want to purchase: Mirror's Edge, Need for Speed: Undercover, and Sonic Unleashed. Followed by Chrono Trigger DS on the 25th.

why can't I be rich??. Unhappy

RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - To - Aug. 20, 2008

Man, Sony Defense Force hasn't ripped on Dyack or Too Human yet. Despite the fact Dyack said Too Human would be better then both Haze, and Lair. Games the SDF gave 10/10 Grin XD
